Activating a Trial License

Once you've installed GoAnywhere MFT on your system, it's easy to get started. You just need to activate your trial license. Watch this short video to learn how to initiate your GoAnywhere trial or, if you're inclined, turn your license into a permanent one after the free 30-day period ends.

Thank you for downloading a trial version of GoAnywhere Managed File Transfer. Once you’ve installed the software on your machine, you’re nearly ready to go… you just need to activate your trial license. When you do this, you’ll unlock all the functionality GoAnywhere MFT offers.

Getting your 30-day trial license is easy. In this short video, I’ll show you how.

After you filled out the form for your risk-free trial, an account was created for you on our GoAnywhere Customer Portal located at my.goanywhere.com. The portal is where you can download other GoAnywhere products, view the documentation library, manage licenses, and more.

You will receive two emails for this account. The first email will contain your user name and temporary password for the portal. The second email is sent after a HelpSystems customer care specialist has reviewed your information and fully enabled your account. Your account must be approved before you can access your trial license.

While you wait for your account to be approved, you can install GoAnywhere using the instructions in the Install Guide. The install guide has the default Admin User name and Password that are used to access the software.

After you receive the second Customer Portal verification email, you can activate your license by logging in to GoAnywhere’s administrative interface. Navigate to Help, then click License.

Select Activate. GoAnywhere will transfer you to the customer portal, where you’ll log in with the email address and password provided to you in the first email.

On the Licenses page, you will see an Evaluation license available. Expand the license row and then click Activate. This will return you to GoAnywhere, where your trial is now licensed to use all the functionally the product has to offer for 30 days.

And that’s how to activate your GoAnywhere trial license.

We get a few questions from customers about how to update a trial license to a permanent one, so for the rest of the video, I’ll give you a couple tips to make the transition a smooth process.

If you enjoy your 30-day trial and have purchased premium features, or would like to have the free features made permanent, a customer care specialist will modify your trial license on the portal and make it a permanent one.

To update your license, launch GoAnywhere. Navigate to Help, click License, and use the Refresh button to update the license. You may have to log in to the Customer Portal to complete the license update, but for most people, their license updates automatically after they click the refresh button.

After your license is made permanent, you’ll only have access to the features that you’ve purchased. If you need additional features or feel your license isn’t correct, contact your customer care specialist and they’ll review your license with you.

Finally, there is one more license issue to consider. The license for your server is generated based on several hardware and software factors. Your license may become disabled if your hardware changes, such as switching out your network card. If that happens, you’ll need to contact your customer care specialist and have them deactivate the license on the portal. Then, you can activate it again from GoAnywhere.
