Ichthys Genomics Chooses FileCatalyst to Accelerate their File Transfer Speeds and Enhance Automation tasks

Posted on March 8, 2019 | Fast File Transfer

Ottawa, ON – FileCatalyst, an Emmy® award-winning pioneer in managed file transfers and a world leading accelerated file transfer solution, has announced that Ichthys Genomics has chosen to use FileCatalyst’s fast file transfer technology to accelerate and automate their file transfer workflows.

Ichthys Genomics, a KST family company and subsidiary company of “Korea Science and Technology,” develops, as well as distributes, genetic analysis-based disease research and diagnosis. Ichthys Genomics provides a genome analysis platform called Caleb that allows people to perform genome analysis quickly and efficiently.

They faced challenges when sending, receiving and sharing multi-terabyte genomics samples using FTP and the Amazon AWS S3 cloud platform. By using traditional FTP and HTTP-based transfer methods, transfers were very slow, creating unneeded inefficiency in their workflow. To overcome these challenges, Ichthys Genomics has chosen to deploy FileCatalyst Direct.

FileCatalyst Direct is a suite of server and client applications that use FileCatalyst’s patented UDP-based protocol to transfer files at speeds of up to 10 Gbps. In addition to providing exponential transfer speeds, The FileCatalyst Direct client application, FileCatalyst HotFolder, has been utilized in the workflow for automation.

FileCatalyst HotFolder allows for the creation of automated transfer tasks that can initiate at set intervals. Any content in the folder will download or upload based on the configuration of the HotFolder.

“Organizations in Life Sciences have always had challenges when moving content across the internet efficiently. And with recent breakthroughs, the size of data sets and genomic samples are continually skyrocketing. We are happy to provide Ichthys Genomics with the tools they need to move this content quickly,” said Alan Atkinson,  VP of Business Development & Marketing for FileCatalyst.

“Being a global organization, we are constantly interacting, sharing and collaborating with institutions across the globe. We are thrilled to finally find a solution that allows us to maximize our bandwidth and use our cloud to its full potential,” said Kim Yuha, Director at Ichthys Genomics.
